Perfect for Beginners

This is the quickest way to get started with sculpting in ZBrush. We cover all the necessary fundamentals for you to get up to speed with the program. The course has been tested in classrooms in universities around Europe – before finally being put together as one elaborate training course available to all.

Start Sculpting

Introduction to ZBrush not only covers the technical tools – but also how to actually sculpt. The sculpting foundations can really take your models to the next level. Showing you industry-proven sculpting techniques means you’ll make great models time and time again, removing chance entirely from the equation.

What You’ll Learn

We start off with the very fundamentals of ZBrush: everything you need to know in order to get started. The series is structured around going from the absolutely essential moving onto some must-have features which speed your work up significantly. Along the way, we are also covering how to customize ZBrush, giving you a far more enjoyable experience.

Brushes are covered in-depth – a topic every ZBrush artist needs to know to the core. Using the correct brushes, the sculpting you do will feel far more natural and smooth. Layers in ZBrush can also be confusing to use. After this, they will work for you, instead of against you. The series is finished off with a lengthy chapter showing how to sculpt a troll in real-time, where you can follow our every brush stroke. This gives you a clear foundation in how to sculpt efficiently and in a methodical manner. The approach we show is great regardless of what you sculpt, whether it is characters, environments or anything in between.

What They Say

“Zbrush can be a real puzzle to learn, however FlippedNormals makes the entire ordeal a simple and easy process, taking you through all the different tools needed to help kickstart your ZBrush journey.”

  • For the price could do better.

First is first. I’m (was? :P) total newbie in ZBrush (fluorescency green level 257) and I don’t want to be very hard on the guys. As an introduction (50$ with VAT) expected at least more in detail exploration of functions. Large swaths of the interface were simply ignored. Introduction should cover all angles.

Don’t get me wrong. I like chaps style, I really do. I learned few things (on top of stuff I’ve managed to memorize from tutorials watched earlier or dig-out on my own). Still everything in this course you can watch easily on YT for free from various sources.

What I learned is that every brush/tool “…is incredibly powerful…” – probably most repeated phrase of this course. 😀 Cheers! Keep in mind that this is outdated version some options are in different sub-menus in e.g. Preferences and ZPlugin or that there is specialized Paint brush baked for Polypainting which was unavailable at that time.

I was thinking very long how should I rate this course. Watched this course from start to finish at least 12 times. Maybe I’m simply too old at this moment in time, certainly not learning ZBrush to get into TV or game industry so I have different perspective. No way to start my life from scratch. Ha!

I rate it at 3.5 stars

I approve of enjoyable content and laid-back atmosphere.

    But

    – 1 star for the price to length ratio. Less than 3 hours is not enough to cover basics of ZBrush (there’s about 50 trillion of buttons and shortcuts LOL), 40 minutes of which is taken by troll sculpting.

    – 0.5 star for outdated version so don’t expect word of explanation/introduction on very cool feature like Snapshot 3D introduced in 2019.

  • Finally!

As a 2D digital painter who is still very attached to line/drafting I feel I have a lot of work ahead of me when it comes to sculpting out things in 3D. However after watching your free and now this tutorial on Zbrush I now finally feel confident enough with the software to start my own projects. Thanks for your contributions to the community love your videos! <3

  • Best intro series for Zbrush

I have tried to learn Zbrush for about a year now and never really got into it because everything seems too hard. I tried following tutorial from other people but they tend to skip over little things that as a beginner would not have picked up. I found FlippedNormals youtube channel and their videos really help explain how to navigate and use Zbrush. I decided to purchase their Intro to Zbrush course and it was worth every cent! I highly recommend this course for any beginners and anyone that want to get into Zbrush.

  • Worth every cent!

Probably one of, if not THE best learning series I picked up in order to get a handle on Zbrush. The sections are broke down into very informative, palatable videos that go on for just long enough for you to understand what is happening. Pacing is important to me, and I very much enjoy the way this little course was set up. After following the video series, I feel like I’m able to confidently navigate Zbrush. Not only that, I mostly UNDERSTAND what a lot of these tools do and why. That’s the biggest plus! This is 100% money well spent and I’m thrilled to keep learning. Thanks guys!

  • Recommend for anyone who wants to learn!

I have to say it's a terrifying field to get into and this series made me feel for the first time like it's something that I will be able to do, thank you for simplified the fundamentals. If I can critic one thing it will be maybe just the things like Polygons and general terms you are using it will be nice to have explained for a complete not native English speaker newbie such as myself. But a great tutorial and very detailed learning experience would definitely recommend for anyone who wants to learn!
