  • Good intro to the sculpting approach to modeling creatures in ZBrush

I’ve been modeling for years but have for some reason shied away from the sculpting approach. Henning has been doing this work for a long time, and this was the right way for me to “break the ice” and start to really leverage to full power of ZBrush, which is fundamentally built around this approach to producing shapes. The same techniques should transfer just fine to Blender.

  • An invaluable resource

It can be a daunting thing to acknowledge your weaknesses but you can’t move forward without doing it and Henning has done a great job of making that easier with this course.

There’s so much distilled and helpful knowledge presented here, it makes that process of self-evaluation feel like a big leap forward rather than a step backwards.

I’ve also somehow come out of this course with a love of ZBrush… a piece of software that up until now felt like the most unbelievably frustrating hellscape ever made. So thanks Henning!

  • Completely worth it.

If I put it shortly it worth every penny! But don’t wait that he will show you the “magical” tricks that sculpt for you. Sculpting is an art and like any art, you have to practice, practice, and again practice. What is most important, this course teaches you the fundamentals, that essential to learning any art to make an appealing project! In the end, he will show you in real-time how to sculpt a head from scratch and as a bonus how to sculpt a beard. While showing the landmarks and shapes which is essential in face sculpting. But again there is no magic, you will have to experience and practice it. Good luck and have fun!
    Cheers!

  • I regret buying It

No way in the world this is a guide for complete beginners. If you come here thinking this will get you started you are wrong. You find better guides free on youtube. The whole thing is just him sculpting at 200% speed and talking random things. He keep saying . ”Don’t sculpt as fast as me, just take your time. ” But that’s the whole point. You have to follow to learn and you cant follow him cause that means you should be pausing every 2 seconds. Very very dissapointed.

Where does the course saybitnis for beginners?

If you look at what they write, it says it is not for complete beginners.

Sorry for all the questions, I just want to make sure, that you didn’t just misunderstand the course, and had the wrong expectations, and gave it a bad review because of that. 🙂

    • “Talks about Random things” Can you elaborate.

Like what kind of shampoo he uses, what car colour he likes the best?

Or actual sculpting workflow, sculpting theory etc?

      • Don’t listen to this guy, firstly the videos are not sped up, you can hear the keyboard in the background, Henning is just pretty fast. Next, these videos are not built for you to literally follow along copying every single stroke, that’s not the point, the point is for you to watch and listen then apply them to your own art and last, of all there is no point in the entire series that Henning goes on a tangent as this guy describes, that point is a flat out lie, the entire course is filled with incredibly valuable information from beginning to end.

  • This was how much?

I had to re-check the receipt to make sure I hadn’t just paid for a $3000 tuition workshop. This class isn’t just good, it tells you the theory of sculpting in such a simple manner that I can walk away from a video and practice what was taught easily. As I learn more about art, digital sculpting, and zbrush in general, I can’t help but feel like THIS was the class I was missing.

Further, don’t feel obligated to only buy this if you’re a zbrush user. You’ll be told when a technique is program agnostic and when it belongs to the zbrush suite. I took many of the techniques mentioned and applied it to NomadSculpt on my iPad.

As a beginner I’ve watched so many tutorials that have left me struggling. This tutorial changed all of that. I now have goals to look forward to and ideas of how to practice to reach those goals.

  • An appealing and timeless course!

Jokes aside, this course has done a lot in teaching me the things that school, and even most other tutorials on the internet have missed or failed to teach. Appeal is super hard to teach, and Mr. Sanden has done a fantastic job in trying to explain this theory by breaking it down on how he understands it in several different ways and methods. Explaining the difference between Fundamentals and Basics also helped me understand which directions I need to take for learning so I can be more efficient. His humor is on point as always, and he doesn’t just lecture; he actually DOES the work and explain the why and how while he is sculpting, and then wraps it all up in a neat bow by sculpting the dude you see. Fantastic course, a must have for anyone who wants to up their game in sculpting. A lot of love, time, and effort when into this, and it shows. An excellent course.

  • Brilliant

Amazing approach by Henning, like listening to good friend genuinly wanting to teach you something. And boy, he knows some stuff. Techniques, mental approach, false assuptions which begginers make, workarounds for problems, that and much more real knowledge for that price is real bargain. On the side note, in my opinion it’s best to use ZBrush for this course anyway.

  • A must do for those without much arts background

I’ve done this one along with Intro to Zbrush 2020 and I’m really happy.
It covers items that I wasn’t aware of or that I didn’t do very well.
A “must do” if you want to either kick-off or boost your sculpting skills.

  • JUST BUY IT ALREADY!

This is worth much much much more than what it’s being sold for. 15 years of knowledge distilled into several hours of videos. Of course you have to put in the work but it’s seriously going to save you from so many years of just having to figure this sculpting thing out yourself!

  • Great course giving foundation for further advancement

I really enjoyed this course. I learned a lot about workflows, techniques and most importantly the way of thinking while sculpting. It is packed with useful information, tips and tricks. I especially like some chapters that you can later put and just listen in the background to get some things really ingrained. For some time I was doodling around with sculpting but I feel that now I can have a proper start. I am also happy with my final dwarf model. But as said in the course this course is not for you to make this character good but to enable you to make many future characters good. I would recommend.

Wow! This course is amazing! I highly recommend it. You also have a amazing bundle on sculpting. Would it be interesting to do a course on a whole figure and prepare it for printing 3d…. would you like to do it? That would be great! Thanks for everything!

  • So Useful

I’ve been using Zbrush on and off for a few years and there is tonnes of info in this tutorial to add to my basics knowledge and indeed, a shed load of info that I’m picking up about the fundamentals! As we all know, Henning is an awesome tutor and this series really doesn’t disappoint. The only downer I can see is that Henning mentions following along in the fundamentals video “12_silhouette”… but the file doesn’t seem to be included? Still, incredibly worth while, I’ll be reaping the rewards of this series for the rest of my career.

  • This is a great place to get started

Don’t let the description fool you – If you watch any of the flipped normals free videos on youtube, you can get enough working knowledge of the software to get started with this. The dwarf walkthrough video is much better paced for an absolute beginner compared to the troll in the zbrush introduction course. That course is great to understand the feature list of the software – but I feel like the art/concepts come first and the features follow, and this course breaks down the thought process and general concepts better than any other course I’ve seen.

I’ve learned so much! This is a very valuable course, and I really do feel like it saved me 3-4 years of bad sculpting haha since it taught me how to think when I want to sculpt which is something that is not often talked about. I am very pleased with my results! Thank you so much for this course, I can’t wait to buy another one from Flipped Normals 🙂
