Magic Blob 2.0.0

An extremely versatile Maya rig for creating effects.

It’s difficult to describe exactly what Magic Blob is for as it’s intentionally an open-ended asset.  some of it’s uses may be creating soap bubbles, force fields, ocean waves or elements of a graphical interface.  Contained within the asset is every maya polygon primitive, displaced by every possible noise variation.  You can choose your primitive, your type of noise, frequency and a host of other options, and then combine them with an array of color options.  See the explainer video linked above for further details.  I think you’ll find this to be a very useful asset for all kinds of effects.

The new version has a massive rebuild of the shader and comes with both a standard surface shader and an arnold shader.  Also added are extra attributes for adjusting the channels of the base primitives.

I originally built this because I needed an easy way to create wobbly soap bubbles complete with a nice fluid texture. As I normally do, I took the rig far beyond it’s intended purposes and created a “Volume Noise Primitive.” It’s a little hard to explain, and the video does a much better job – but basically picture all the volume noise options in maya combined with all the polygon primitives and you have the basis for what this rig is.
