Modular Environment Creation for Production

In this tutorial we will look at creating highly detailed, full CG environment animation, that can be used for game cinematic, cut scenes or short films. I will walk you trough my workflow and my thought process, and we will do a deep dive in the making of my personal project “The Experiment”. This is a fully cg shot that was rendered in Arnold for Maya, and I will explain each step of the production. We will look at things like: fast and efficient block-outs, designing in 2D and 3D, subdivision modeling, scripts and plugins for faster workflow, MASH, procedural shading, texturing in Substance Painter, lighting, render settings and AOVS and Compositing in Nuke.

Here is the final result of the project “The Experiment”:

Chapters include:

01. Introduction and project overview
02. Block out, and setting up the scale
03. Paint over and designing in 2D
04. Design in 3D and checking functionality of the design
05. Intro to Sub-D modeling and  useful scripts
06. Sub-D modeling time lapse
07. MASH as modeling tool
08. Creating the Spiderwebs
09. Modeling Wrap Up
10. Procedural Shading
11. Substance Painter Texturing

  • very good tutorial!!!

Really good content easy to follow and interesting project.
    Good teaching skills also
Only bottom line is that you have to buy extra plugins, but they are quite cheap.
I really would love tutorials following the same process but integrated in Unreal for the render.
