Eucalyptus polyanthemos, commonly known as red box, is a species of small to medium-sized tree, that is native to eastern Australia but has been introduced into other countries. It has fibrous bark on the trunk and larger branches, smooth greyish to cream-colored bark above, or smooth bark throughout. It grows to be a good-sized tree, with a height of about 30 to 75 feet (10 to 23 m). In California, it is known as the Silver Dollar Gum, with gum being a term for eucalyptus, and the silver dollar referring to its round grayish juvenile leaves.
