An evergreen upright small tree that grows up to 6m tall and 3m wide. Fragrant white flowers bloom in abundance in early spring along the branches rather than at the tips like other magnolias. Foliage is grey-green and leathery. Prefers a sheltered sunny site with free-draining, humus-rich soil.
