Zbrush Hair Strands 2 / IMM Curve Brush

Insert Multi Mesh Brush with four (4) mesh variations for creating hair strands. Single, Double, Triple, and a Double “flyer” mesh for thinner strands. The meshes have decent UVs  (center section will tile), but some stretching is unavoidable due to how the IMM brushes work. Still good enough for some basic texturing and displacements if desired.

Also including two (2) curve falloff profiles (stroke-curve modifiers). One for basic tapered strands; the other for straighter strands good for bangs and straighter hair cuts. Load the curves into the stoke>curve falloff for easy switching between them

Strands within each mesh are easily separated via ZBrush polygroup auto-grouping.

After separating into groups use the Move brush with “automasking”>”mask by polygroups“, or use move topological brush, to move the individual strands around for more variation. Perfect for for quickly creating secondary shapes and volumes from larger forms.

Smooth/ sculpt as needed. Also some good results playing with subdivisions and ‘claypolish’.

v2.0: fix to filename extensions for curve falloffs.

  • I don't have UVs like promised :c

    Hi,
I just bought your IMM hair brush and the shape is really cool! Except I bought this pack for the decent UVs that were promised with the hair strand like in the picture. Is it normal I’m not getting UVs? All the faces are split into UV shells and it’s not good at all for textures.

    • IMM Brushes repeat or tile the middle section, so the UVs are built to allow vertical tiling of textures that will repeat in the middle and align with the top and bottom sections.

By nature zbrush will stretch the geometry so UVs wont be perfect since the geometry is being modified after the UVs have been created.

Top, middle, and bottom sections all have UVs laid out into 0-1 space, so yes there will be seams between the sections but they should align well with one another.

  • Wonderful for quick hair for stylized characters or 3d printing

They do as advertised and work well. As stated in the title of this review, they are great for quick stylized hair or characters intended for 3d printing.

The only bad thing I can say is at the time of writing this review, the curve presets for the brush are in the incorrect format (they are in .ZBP and should be .ZCV) and will crash Zbrush if loaded as a brush and cannot be loaded as curve falloff presets. They can be fixed by manual changing the extension to .ZCV, but I shouldn’t have to do that and is an oversight.
