Normals Chart
This is just a chart I put together to help me fix bad normal bakes or make them by hand where necessary. I thought some of you out there might get some use out of it, and so I'm putting it up here. Different formations are both "raised" and "recessed" into the map so there's no fiddly flipping. Most formations come in multiple heights or angles. It's quick and kind of ugly, but hopefully it's of use to you! Download is a 4k (3840x2160) PNG of the chart.
Sections of the chart:
- Pyramids: square and round pyramid shapes (I learned they're technically called fustums). Angles are between the floor and the wall of the pyramid. 5 angles/heights.
- Rounds: Semi-circle and S-curve shapes. Note: Semi-circles are all raised from the surface. To recess, flip left-to-right or top-to-bottom as needed. 3 heights.
- Spheres & Doughnuts: Spheres, dishes, and cylinders with a filleted edge in 3 heights. Doughnuts in 2 inner diameters.
- Angles: These are angled faces moving around a circle, so you don't need to eye-drop from a sphere, if you want a specific angle. The outer ring indicates an angle downward from the flat surface. The inner ring indicates the angles between each side.
- Blades: I make a lot of models of swords, and just wanted a quick reference for different blade cross-sections in normals form. These each have a secondary bevel for the sharpened edge.
