XGen Guide

An in depth guide on my approach for creating grooms using XGen Core. Guide includes about 80 pages of content relating to groom creation in XGen along with helpful links for furthering your CG Hair journey.

Guide is created for Maya 2023 or newer and with the expectation that artist already have an understanding of Maya. Best for intermediate artists. Basic understanding of shaders, lighting, and rendering will be required.

Guide covers:

  • Gathering and using references
  • Types of references to look for
  • Creating a master project folder
  • Naming convention for XGen
  • Placing and sculpting guides
  • Useful modifiers and how to use them
  • Expressions for XGen: what they are, how they are structured, and how/when to use them

This is the guide only, project files and meshes will not be provided for this guide.
